JULIANNE MOORE says she was happy to become a L'Oréal Parisspokeswoman because she's "an actual user of the brand", which also counts Natasha Poly, Cheryl Cole and Lea Michele as ambassadors.

"Every modern woman shops everywhere for beauty, but for me it's mostly the airport or the drugstore," Moore said. "It's nice to be promoting something that is accessible to everyone."

The actress - whose pale skin and red hair moved her to write a series of children's books called Freckleface Strawberry - is due to represent an upcoming L'Oréal anti-ageing skincare line, Cellular Renaissance, which will launch in Europe in January.

"My mother was from Scotland and had very fair skin… she wouldn't allow us to go in the sun," she told WWD, adding that the use of a washcloth to cleanse the face is a vital part of her regime. "It's an old-fashioned beauty tip for exfoliating," she said.

However, the actress' latest film role - as the abusive mother in Carrie - sees her leaving the beauty world far behind.

"She is a religious fanatic living alone and her only community is her daughter, so I wanted to show how intense that relationship is," she said. "Let me tell you, I am not beautiful in it."
